But now, it is a popular tourist site as picturesque scenery of an unusual natural hot spring. Among the 7 Hells, visit the four which have been nationally designated as Places of Scenic Beauty: Umi Jigoku, Shiraike Jigoku, Chinoike Jigoku and Tatsumaki Jigoku.
11:30 Jigoku (Hell) Steamed Cuisine
Have your lunch by dining on jigoku-steamed dishes in which the ingredients are steamed by the high-temperature gases emanating from the onsen. At Kannawa, there are shops where you can sample many such dishes. “Jigoku Mushi Kobo” and “Chinetsu Kanko Labo Enma” are particularly popular places.
13:00 pm Beppu Ropeway
Board the ropeway at the 503m level of Mt. Tsurumi and head up to the 1300m peak by ropeway to enjoy the great natural surroundings of the mountain. From the top, you can enjoy the grand view of the city of Beppu and its bay along with the sight of the other mountains. You can also enjoy a nature walk which lasts up to an hour.
