Why this combination works

Kanto is the one region where a first-time visitor can see a world city, a UNESCO shrine complex, a volcanic hot-spring resort and an ancient capital without ever moving far from the airport. The four elements are deliberately different from one another:

• Days 1–3: Tokyo — Asakusa and Senso-ji, the Imperial Palace, Meiji Jingu, Harajuku and Shibuya, Tsukiji, Akihabara. Three guided days let you take one district properly each day instead of a highlights dash.
• Day 4: Nikko — Tosho-gu's Edo-period carving, then Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji up the Irohazaka road. A private vehicle is the practical choice here.
• Day 5: Mt. Fuji and Hakone — hot springs, Lake Ashi, Owakudani and Fuji views. Note that the Fuji Five Lakes area and Hakone are booked as separate tours.

It becomes worth calculating for the 14-day Golden Route, which crosses to Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima. The pass can only be purchased by temporary visitor visa holders who are not already in Japan.
