9:30 am Shuri Castle
Tour the remains of Shuri Castle, the ancient palace of the Ryukyu Kingdom which prospered from the 15th century to the 19th century. The main buildings of Shuri Castle were destroyed by fire in the night of October 31, 2019. There are plans to rebuild the castle by 2026. In the meantime, tourists are encouraged to visit the castle and observe the reconstruction works.
11:00 am Tamaudun
A royal mausoleum that was built in the 16th century. Take a walk through the group of historic sites of the royal family. After the tour, take a break for lunch. Nearby, there is the popular café/restaurant Ashibiuna that was restored from an old Okinawan house. You can sample some of that Okinawan cuisine that can only be found locally.
12:30 pm Lunch at Kokusai Dori (International Street)
The central business district of the city of Naha where you can enjoy shopping and local foods only found in Okinawa. There are also many izakayas and restaurants, and the area is lively right into the wee hours thanks to the locals and tourists.
